What's happening in Mrs. Farruggia's room...
Literacy - We are going to start the year off learning about and working on Personal Narratives. Students will be reading examples of other writer’s personal narratives and writing their own. We ask that students read at least 20 minutes every night. Ask them to read out loud to you or what they are reading about.
Math - We are going to start the year with extending what we already know about rounding and place value. Module 1 takes number sense and place value understanding from 2nd and 3rd grade a step further. Students will start by noticing patterns when bundling and unbundling groups of 10s, 100s and 1,000s, and conclude by estimating and finding precise answers to addition and subtraction problems using the standard algorithm. Students will be working on a digital platform called ST Math. For more information about ST Math, visit the following link. https://www.stmath.com/
Social Studies/ Science - This year, 4th grade will be rotating classrooms for Science and Social Studies. To start off the year, Miss Baker’s class will start with Chemistry, Mrs. Belt’s class will start with the Human Body, and Mrs. Farruggia’s class will start with Economics and You. Each group will spend three weeks on each topic rotating among the teachers. Day planners will depict what topic your student is studying.
Special Notes -We are a team! Open communication is key amongst school and home. Please never hesitate to write a note in your child’s day planner, email, or call. Your child’s success is what is most important. Thank you for your support in making this the best year yet! We are still waiting for our day planners to arrive. In the mean time, we are using paper and this website.
